Had lots of fun yesterday! My dad visited around 10 a.m. and asked for Dog Custody of Spider for the week, so I gave him her insulin and needles, and I showed him all the CDs/tapes I got on Friday. We listened to "Queens of the Stone Age/Villains" and the Primus CD together, and then we fixed the wobbly shelf on my bookcase and Dad walked around my backyard to see how bad it was, with all the raised garden beds and stone paths that a previous renter put in.

He told me he got me a free push mower (since my last one got stolen in late summer) but it died on him, so he brought it to an Amish guy we know who's great with mechanics and motors. He also got himself a new weed whacker and he said he'll bring it up next weekend and handle the tricky parts of the backyard for me. I love this guy.

Afterward I went out to the library to see my roommate and hang out. We had lunch together -- 80 degrees and no shade!! so hot!! -- and then walked to the gas station, where I grabbed some energy drinks and a nasty cheese snack XD My roommate was SWEATING in his work clothes and so red-faced by the time we got back 💀

We checked out the books for sale and spent a dollar on some cool vintage hardbacks -- matching green hardcovers of the Lattimore Odyssey and Iliad translations, and then three books my roommate picked out: Wordsworth, Oliver Wendell Holmes, John Ashbery poems. I set up on the second floor and wrote three fics: one for Star Trek: Picard, where Jack Crusher is mind-raped by the Borg Queen; one for Halfway Human, where Tedla meets an old client and surprises Val by seeming into the possibility of sex; and then I finished off "Float", which is REALLY COOL!!

"Float" is my old Haikyuu!! multichap that I started in April 2020, just after the pandemic started and only a few months before the manga ended. It focuses on Daichi and Suga's lives outside of volleyball, as they head toward high school graduation and realize neither of them are going to be professional athletes; they have to figure out what's next and close the old chapter in their lives.

This is one of my favorite fics I've ever written, maybe THE favorite. It's never had a wide audience. I got less than 30 kudos while I was actively working on it, which was really low for Haikyuu!! at the time XD But I adore this fic. I love the description, the melancholy bittersweet feeling to it, and the slice-of-life feel, and the moments of hope they both have, and the genuine love they feel for their little "dead-end" town and all the "losers" who still live there. I was really happy to finish it, and I didn't get any comments, but I did get new kudos, and one of those new guys went through my catalogue and kudos'd a bunch of different fics in different fandoms, so it was a real win.

Oh! When I got done writing, I decided to hang out in the TV section and flip through a bunch of costume/makeup books, especially for Star Trek. I skimmed through a bunch of manuals idly and then found an awesome book on special effects/creature makeup and how the artists "play God" by transforming human canvas into something strange and new, or by aging young humans up, by changing people's race or gender, etc. I spent the last hour before the library closed reading it, and checked it out.

Afterward my roommate and I walked to Starbucks where I ordered "the mango drink" (the barista recommended it), which turned out to be purple/pink, and had raspberries floating in it??? It was okay, we were just there so my roommate could use the bathroom to change. We got a burger and fries from McDonald's and sat on the curb eating and laughing -- can't remember what we were laughing about but we were in hysterics. It was a long, sweaty walk home in 80-degree weather, but it was nice and cloudy.

At home, one of my friends recommended a Kakashi/Iruka fic and I stayed up all the way till 5 a.m. reading it XD Hence the Kakashi icon. Now I'm in a terrible Kakashi mood, reading the early chapters of the manga, plotting a fanfic...

I converted Fahrenheit to Celsius and my jaw dropped. It's like 60-70ish degrees here and I'm freezing to death under three of the thickest, oldest blankets(〒īšâ ã€’)
