...and I just realized I don't have ANY Gargoyles icons! 😣

ToyWiz sent me the first reprint issue of the 90s Marvel comic run for Gargoyles! It's amazing. Great quality reprint. So cool to have the art right there to look at up close, instead of reading the grainy off-color scans online. It's really gorgeous art, and it seems like they could pack so much more into a single issue back then. Full, show-style episodes in just a single issue or two, whereas the new run seems more like ... an abridged, condensed episode, like a 10-minute episode, and it takes place over 3 issues instead of one.

I don't know if they're doing more reprints -- I couldn't find any preorder info on ToyWiz, and Dynamite's website is so bad I just stopped ordering from them entirely. But I hope so, because I'd love to get my hands on the Xanatos and Fox comics later on.

The same night, I wrote a new Gargoyles fic, "The Fisher King", a oneshot set in 1979 where Xanatos and Owen go to Dublin in search of a magic cauldron. IMO it comes across as very "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" in its description of Ireland. I felt like my hands were tied somehow while writing it. My grandmother was an Irish immigrant and I was really close to her as a kid, which led to a major interest in the Troubles when I was a teenager. Every time I got my hands on ANY cash, I would spend hours searching for books on the Troubles to buy. I probably read at least 20 books just on that period during high school, and it would have been more if the local library had had anything.

But it DEFINITELY seemed wrong to use any of that knowledge for a damn Gargoyles fic XD So the fic takes place in the late 70s, in Dublin and Dun Laoghaire, but it's all very sanitized and picaresque. I think I would be left with a weird feeling no matter how I wrote it, so it's whatever.

Afterward, my roommate and I settled down for the night and he decided he wanted to watch....Gargoyles XD So he searched through S2 and settled on the three-part finale, Hunter's Moon. We had been watching the World Tour previously and he was sick of it.

Me: "What about The Gathering? They finish up the World Tour and go back to NYC just in time for Xanatos' kid to be born!"
Roommate: "Ugh, definitely not! I HATE Xanatos' baby!"
Me: *wounded*

Spent the non-Gargoyles time just reading the rest of that House/Wilson zine (almost done with the novella at the end) and "Every Day" by David Levithan, which I reviewed earlier.
