My roommate and I got on a Broadway kick and spent last night watching the 1998 Tony Awards hosted by Rosie O'Donnell -- which led to us watching the Angela Lansbury Sweeney Todd -- which led to a side-by-side performance comparison with the Tim Burton film adaptation -- which led to a night of Phantom of the Opera/Les Miserables comparisons and Michael Crawford interviews + Some Mothers Do Have 'Em clips + my roommate testing out his vocal range (he makes a great Raoul).

And we watched lots of Angela Lansbury clips as well. We didn't make it to Broadway this past Christmas, which was okay, because none of the performances really stuck out to us. But Josh Groban is taking on Sweeney Todd soon, so maybe we ought to try for that.

(Pipe dream. I spend all my money on Thai takeout.)

Trek things: I spent all day yesterday working on a oneshot, 8K, called "A Bridge of Brass", where Will and Thomas Riker both get trapped on the space station Nervala IV for another eight years. Over time, their identities start to blur; comparisons are drawn between the twin brothers Sisyphus and Salmoneus and their mutual descent into Tartarus for eternal punishment. You can read that here.

Then just now, at work, one of the guys came over to my desk and handed me a combadge :D He found it in his house. Yeeeee.

Also: my roommate decided he didn't want to write the Best of Both Worlds AU, too Riker-centric for him. I tried to entice him with the Riker-less Picard and Ro AU, but he wasn't interested, so now we're going back to our separate fanfic worlds XD He has a multichap Cobra Kai fic, Lawrusso, that's really fucking funny, so I think that takes up all his brain space right now.

Oh! "My Favorite Cat" got rejected from the only horror magazine that accepts pieces less than 2K but longer than 1K. So I guess that's it for that story! I still have to submit "A Spark of Understanding in a Primate's Eye" somewhere but my hands are kind of tied on that one, not sure what genre it is. Kind of dark and full of dread. A tiny bit sci-fi, because it's based on the great ape language programs and involves a sentient ape who can't get humans to understand him. But there are elements of animal abuse, and a lot of the magazines put that on their Hard No list, along with all the other good themes. (No rape? No incest? No underage? V.C. Andrews would never thrive in this environment)
