It's killing me!! I did watch Season 1, and skipped Season 2; it had been so long since I watched TNG that I never understood what was going on or recognized the legacy characters brought back for cameos. I even remember going, "Picard named his dog Number One? Is that supposed to be a reference to something? I don't get it." Now that I'm back in full TNG mode, rewatching the episodes and reading some of the books for the first time, I couldn't resist watching S3. Oh god, it's painful!
